Ponds, Stock Tanks & Drainage

New tanks dug, old ones cleaned out, dams rebuilt, and water moved away from the places it should not be sitting.

A stock tank is worth what it holds. We site new tanks where the watershed actually feeds them, key the dam into clay so it holds, and set the spillway where an overflow will not cut the dam out the first big rain.

Old tanks that have silted in can usually be brought back rather than replaced — cleaning out years of silt often gains back more water than most owners expect. We also handle the unglamorous drainage work: swales, ditches, washouts, and water standing where a barn or house is trying to stay dry.

What is included

  • New stock tanks and ponds
  • Silted-in tank cleanout and deepening
  • Dam repair, keyways and spillway work
  • Swales, ditches and diversion berms
  • Erosion and washout repair
  • Drainage away from houses, barns and shops

What drives the price

  • Size and depth of the tank, and what the soil is
  • Whether there is clay on site to key the dam into
  • Where the spoil dirt goes
  • How far equipment has to travel to reach the site
  • Time of year — a dry tank digs far cheaper than a wet one

Ponds & Drainage — questions we get

My tank holds water for a month and then goes dry. Can that be fixed?

Usually. It is normally either a leak in the dam, not enough depth, or a watershed too small to keep it charged. We will dig test holes and tell you which one it is before quoting a fix.

Best time of year to dig a pond around here?

Late summer through winter, when the ground is dry. Digging a wet tank costs more and compacts worse.
